Set off to discover Tromsø, Alta, and the North Cape for a memorable stay above the Arctic Circle! This journey begins in Tromsø, the capital of Norwegian Lapland. Take the Hurtigruten boat that will drop you in Honningsvåg and drive to the mythical globe and the North Cape, the roof of Europe under the never-ending sunlight. You will then drive through the sublime landscapes of Norwegian roads back to Tromsø with a stop in Alta and the stunning Lyngen Alps.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Tromsø

Arrival in Tromsø. Pick up your car (not included) and drive to the center of Tromsø, the beautiful Arctic city, and check-in at the hotel. The rich history of this city has earned it two nicknames. The first is the “Paris of the North” due to the numerous trade relations with France during the 19th century and the number of cafes and bars. The second is the “Gateway to the Arctic” because for many decades, this city was the heart of Arctic hunting and the starting point for the most legendary expeditions.

Day 2: Tromsø and Hurtigruten

Breakfast at the hotel. Explore Tromsø at leisure. We can recommend you to take the cable car “Fjellheisen” that will give you a splendid view of the city or to go on a walk on the Telegrafbutka beach. In the evening you will take the Hurtigruten boat with the car, next stop the North Cape!

Overnight stay on an outside cabin (unspecified) on board the Hurtigruten boat.

Day 3: Hurtigruten and North Cape

Breakfast on board. Later in the morning you will disembark the boat and set off to the Northernmost point of Europe. The Nordkapphallen is open everyday of the year, until 1 am in summer and 10pm in the later season (end of August), we advise you to go there (ticket included) late in the evening so you can admire the midnight sun. On that night, you will be staying in a traditional cabin where you’ll have a kitchen to make you own dinner and breakfast.

Day 4: Honningsvåg – Alta

Today, you will head back South to Alta! The road you will take to go there (E69) is a beautiful road where you will follow the fjord for quite a while before entering reindeer’s territory! During summer, they are free to roam around so you’re very likely to meet some of them alongside your drive. You will then arrive in Alta where you can enjoy a relaxing evening.

Local tip

King crab is a must-try in Honningsvåg, where the Arctic waters provide some of the freshest and most flavourful crab in the world. Whether served steamed, grilled, or in a rich seafood stew, it is a true local delicacy. Many restaurants in town, offer generous portions, often paired with melted butter and fresh bread.
