The Lofoten and Vesterålen Islands are spread across the turbulent waters of the Norwegian Sea, above the Arctic Circle. This rare wilderness outpost offers a landscape of majestic mountains, deep fjords, long, wave-swept beaches, and historical fishing villages. In winter, the area is the perfect spot for aurora hunting, snowshoe adventures and admiring the wilderness.
Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Evenes
Arrival at Evenes airport where you will pick up your car (not included, price on request). You’ll start your journey in Narvik. This small town, situated between the fjord and mountains, is your perfect first stop for your Northern adventures. If you’re feeling sporty, you can also go for a little ski tour while there or just go up the gondola to admire the view of Northern Norway’s largest ski resort.

Day 2: Evenes – Sortland (178km)
Breakfast at the hotel. Today, you will start your journey towards the Vesterålen islands. After dropping your luggage at the hotel, we encourage you to explore the area. Stop in Stokmarknes to visit the museum of the famous Hurtigruten coastal express or book a visit to a reindeer farm and meet the Sami family taking care of them (not included, price on request). Once the night is there and if the sky is clear, try to go away from the city light and look up! Maybe some Northern lights will be dancing around you.

Day 3: Sortland and Sea Eagle Safari
Breakfast at the hotel. This morning, you will take your car to go West of Sortland and more into the Vesterålen island. After a short hour of drive, you will meet with your guide that will take you on a Sea Eagle Safari. This 3-hour guided wildlife safari by is the perfect way to admire the landscapes and try to spot eagles and other seabirds.

Day 4: Sortland – Svolvær (85km)
Breakfast at the hotel. Today you will say goodbye to the Vesterålen Islands. From Sortland, you will drive to Melbo where you will take a ferry that will take you to the Lofoten Islands (ferry crossing not included). Once on that side of the islands, you can drive towards the beautiful village of Henningsvær, a combination of islands connected by bridges. Down by the harbor you will find small shops and restaurants serving local delicacies. You will then make your way towards Svolvær where you will spend the next two nights in a traditional rorbu.

Day 5: Svolvær and snowshoe adventure
Breakfast at the hotel. Today, bring out the explorer inside you! After a short instruction class on how to use your snowshoes, you will be off to a hike that will allow you to explore the wilderness and the beautiful landscapes of the islands with a guide. Don’t forget your camera! After your tour, you can enjoy a bit of rest in the village of Svolvær and during the evening, if the sky is clear you can try and go chase some Northern Lights.

Day 6: Svolvær – Reine (115km)
Breakfast at the hotel. After a restful night in Svolvær, it is time to explore the South of the Lofoten Islands. On your way towards Reine, make sure to stop in some of the famous beaches of the area: Haukland, Ramberg, Uttakleiv… the islands are full of beautiful landscapes and you should take the time to explore on that day! You will then arrive in Reine where you will spend the night.

Day 7: Reine – Evenes (216km)
Breakfast at the hotel. On your last day in the Lofoten, take your time to admire the village of Reine in the morning before heading back towards the North. On your way, you can stop in the village of Nusfjord (price not included, to be paid on spot). Nusfjord is one of Lofoten’s hidden gems as one of the oldest and best-preserved fishing village in Norway. After that, you’ll start driving towards the airport for your last night in the Lofoten.

Day 8: Departure (70km)
Breakfast at the hotel. Drop the car off at the airport and take your flight according to your own itinerary.

It is air-dried Arctic cod, preserved naturally by the cold, salty winds of Lofoten during winter. You can try stockfish in several delicious ways in local restaurants.
